Looks more like ash or, possibly, chestnut to me. Mid to late 19th century. European in origin seems likely.
If that is a J. B., possibly Jennings Brothers but I don't quite see their usual quality in this.
Absolutely circa 1900 oak. A bit more up-scale than some we see from that era.
