The pearl bits are attached to a straight piece of metal that goes through the bead. I've done similar. The pearls may have yellowed with age.
It says "Common Prayer" on the spine, so a Book of Common Prayer rather than a Bible. It may have been a traveling piece or similar.
If it was made that way to begin with. It looks like the faux pearl bits were there to begin with, but the dangling piece is out of scale by a lot.
The first one looks odd. I want to say it's later made from vintage parts. I've done that before - make something new out of old broken bits.
