    Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help me identify the hallmarks on this 18ct gold and diamond ring. The only stamps inside the band are maybe an “18” and a small maker’s mark beneath it (photos attached). I can’t tell if the second mark is initials or a workshop symbol.

Does anyone recognise this type of mark, or know which country it might come from? I’m also curious about the likely period/era of the piece. The ring has a heavy, tapered design with a flush-set diamond.

Any thoughts or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Yikes, who did that horrible scratch.

Early twentieth or late nineteenth, probably simply says 18 ct.

    Nice ring, Antiquesb.
Agree. Double punches do happen, and this looks like a part-double punch.
Someone who had no idea there were proper ways of testing gold.

I buy a lot of things from little pawn brokers and they aren’t very gentle when testing gold. I could offer some friendly constructive criticism next time :)

It is English, Scandinavia doesn't use English abbreviations.
It could be from one of the former colonies, like Australia or new Zealand, but given the location English is much more likely.

Yup, agreed. It’s absolutely typical of some double or miss strikes I’ve seen.

That's an EEK-style scratch test. These days many proper dealers have electronic testers, which leave no nasty marks.
