This is 1 of 3 paintings I found at a local thrift store today - I got all 3 for $100.
This one has no signature on front that I could see, but written in pencil on back I think I see Hugh O'Neil & googling that name with artist brings up a Hugh O'neil who is 1 of the top 100 Irish artists!
    Is this one of his?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The different spelling doesn't bother me because I think the framer wrote it.

Everything else makes me think, "not that hugh o'neill"

Plus, Hugh O'Neil could be the owner of the piece. Or an employee of Bob Rubenstein.

I would be opening that one up to see if there was more info on the back/under the mat.

I hope we won't get an angry Hugh O'Neill on the forum. If he shows up, I'm not here.:bag:

Exactly, & I think it's the name of the framer, with his phone number.

I still think this one is worth opening up to check for more info.

Of course, I have zero dollars invested and don't have to resell it. :p

Think she modeled for many cameos I've seen.

Jivvy, maybe Hugh O'neil was the customer of Bob Rubenstein interiors for this painting?

Entirely possible that some random guy name Hugh O'Neil owned it, sure.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The landscape painter Hugh O'Neill was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1959, according to this announcement of a 2015 show:
    https://www.therickiereport.com/category/galleries/a-unique-art-gallery/

The paper on the back of the painting includes a handwritten phone number that starts with letters rather than numbers. In the United States, that type of phone number was phased out in the 1960s. At that time, Mr. O'Neill was a young child who most likely still lived in Ireland. So, that's just another reason why it doesn't appear to be the same artist.

Bob Rubenstein interiors was a company from 1995-2004.

Which, I think matches up with this frame job.

I don't think the number is a phone number. Could be a purchase order number, mat style, frame color, glass upgrade, who knows.

I do think any connection to the artist Hugh must be set free. :joyful:

Oh, hadn't thought of those possibilities. Thanks!

#797 is probably one or the other of those, job number perhaps.
