    I posted the same thing a while ago - didn't see this one. Does anyone know what the German laws are on treasure trove? It's all headed to a museum, but whether that museum is in Denmark or Germany remains to be seen.

    I don’t really even understand the laws here about this of this nature. I’ve even read of discoveries on ones own property being taken by a government agency without even any compensation. But there’s always bragging rights.!

    In the US it's generally finders keepers, unless the find is government property. In which case, kiss it good-bye. I've heard of dug cannon being claimed by the US government, since they were lost rather than decommissioned.

    Not exactly. Florida has pretty strict laws about who gets what when sunken ships are found. When Barry Clifford found the Whydah off Cape Cod, Massachusetts didn't have such strict laws because nobody had found a treasure ship here prior to that. One of the guys on the Commonwealth's marine archaeology board quit an joined Barry's team. Hmm.
