Hey, it's been quite some time since I posted here! I found this the other day for $100. It has $100 worth of gold alone so basically bought it for scrap value. The condition of this pin is great. 1920s art deco construction. I was wondering though how were these worn? I found one old picture of a lady wearing it to connect her collar? Can anyone tell me anything about it? I my self was going to put it on a sweater but I think it may look out of place.

How long is this lovely pin? While I don't doubt this can be worn on a collar, someone recently found a pair of underwear pins / clips looked rather similar to this, although maybe they didn't have the stones, I cannot remember.. ??

Hmmm no measurements on hand at the moment but I don't think this would be a lingerie pin.... Well at least I hope not as I plan on wearing it on a sweater haha!

I cannot ascertain how "dainty" it looks? I think the other clips were not more than an inch or an inch and a quarter? Not sure what size they were?

I would wear this, think it's beautiful. :cat:

Spartcom, that pin is lovely! I don't see any reason you couldn't wear this on a lightweight sweater - or on anything else you darn please!

At this point just wear it however you want.

Gorgeous pin, spart, and yes, originally worn on, or ideally just below the collar. Now you can wear it however you like, I wear these either on a shawl or more vertically on a lapel.

I think it is just pre-1920, sometime between 1910 and 1920. The cut and setting of the sapphires is seen a lot in jewellery of that period, as is the lever safety clasp. That delicate filigree-like work was already used at the time, jewellery generally became heavier during the Art Deco period.

Here are some photos of how they were worn:

wow sounds like a great find for the price! I'd say wear it however- modern day dressing isn't conducive to wearing it in the original way (unless you wear tops like in the picture AJ poster, which if you do, that's amazing! :D) I wouldn't worry about it looking out of place, it'd be lovely on a sweater!!

I'd wear it as a pendant, using one of those adaptor thingies.

Wear it wherever you like. There is no right or wrong. I was going to post pictures but since that’s already been done I’ll just add that I found a great picture of a gal wearing her antique bar pin on her ponytail.

There's a fad called "prairie chic" with those high necklines, but I don't think the pin would go with calico or gingham.

Why not? With respect, in my opinion, the pin could go with whatever the owner wants to wear it with. I’ve worn my grandmother’s diamond pin across the top lace of a combat boot. (The boot is Dior lol).

Lovely little pin. It would hold its own with whatever you wear. Combat boot [Dior lol or whatever] - just.
