Picked this up today. At first glance I thought it might be a tea glass holder, then I realized that the glass would just slip out. I think someone turned a tankard into a candlestick holder. Any idea of purpose or age? 20180212_205702.jpg 20180212_205737.jpg 20180212_205716.jpg

Why couldn't it have been made like this originally? It's like the little lamps people used to light their way to bed after main lights had been extinguished.

It's a candle holder with handle and shield.

Some people call the "shield" part a reflector.

It's entirely possible. For some reason, that didn't occur to me.

In my opinion 20th century, not from 1769.

Imagine that's when the company was established, not an attempt at fraud.

You're stating what should have been obvious, but know I didn't think of it.

This site takes up pewter marks about half way down & mentions the use & meaning of the crowned X.

Is the item made of aluminum or pewter? I ask because it kinda looks like aluminum.
