I have this antique English sampler and according to the very limited research I have done, it appears to be by an Anne/Annie Maria Tallentire from Durham England, baptized in 1851 at Barnard Castle. Her parents were William and Ann.
I believe the castle in the sampler depicts Barnard Castle.
I am curious what the letters or numbers after her parent's names mean though, any ideas ?

Say_it, that's the link I found to help ID her. I can't decide if those are letters or numbers after William's name.

Yes, same family group, I think the second link is my Annie but not sure.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The two links given above look like two different families. Different birth and death dates, different maiden name of the mother, etc.

You're right Fig, by the same 'Family Group' I meant extended family from the same area.

The letters/numbers don't look like initials (unless I'm missing something), I'm not even sure what they are.

The father looks like F T then maybe 1511. I'm wondering if the F T is for Forest Teasdale.

No idea but the colours seem unusually bright, so that's a good thing.

The pattern was later adopted as the basis of Space Invaders.

    ;) @ af.
I'm wondering if the design at the end of the father's name could be a partial greek key design.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

For a while I was wondering whether the initials after the mother's name might be her parents' initials. And maybe the one set of initials after the father's name could be his father's? But neither of the links above has a mother whose maiden name began with the letter "A." And with only one set of initials after the father's name, it doesn't seem to match up. Plus, whatever that design is after his name...

Possibly just random letters to fill the gap.

The puzzle for me is what the text means.

Every wise woman buildeth her house but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands?

I have known a few foolish women but they were not notable for their plucking.

    Hi Calico,
Thank God for that. Plucking them birds were the dirtiest and smelliest job. The smell of those scalding feathers were horrible.
Then getting those tinyteeny pin feathers out was worse than using the plyiers to get the wing feathers. Good riddance.
