I traded a bmx bicycle to a friend for this confederate bond & coupon sheet today. It has a red stamp in the top right corner & a raised seal in the left side center of the bond.
Is this real? How do I tell?
Was it worth trading for a bmx worth about $150(I have about 15 - 20 bikes so not only did I like the history of this - but it took up a lot less room!)?
Any other information that would help me know this piece?
    Thank you!
PS - It's inside some kind of plexiglass/plastic display (the last 2 rows of coupons were too long & someone folded them so they are on the back - see last few pics), that was stuck to a red velvet covered metal sheet (I pulled it off the velvet which is why there are tape strips along back of plastic case/display)

That looks really cool! There should be discoloration of the ink anywhere something was hand numbered or signed. The bottom signature on the coupons appears printed on but I think they did that on some authentic notes. The paper and the graphics look pretty good to me and I'd lean towards authentic. Perhaps you could take it into a local coin/currency dealer or shop and they could give a better opinion.

I can't tell you if it's real, but I see one for sale for $140. It would seem to be a lot of effort to reproduce something like that for that price range. Do the signatures look like legitimate inked signatures, and not printed?

    Signature looks real.
Did the one you saw for $140 have all the coupons? My friend said that's what made it special?

I included a link. I think you would have to ask, because the photograph conveniently cuts off the bottom. That makes me think that the one I found online does not have the coupons, but that's just an assumption.
If you look for sold items "confederate bond" on ebay, you'll find one like yours with coupons (about three rows of them) that sold for a little under $90. In looking for yours online, it seemed that in general, confederate bonds often sell in the range of $100-$200. Unless they have a famous signature.

I've found these 1864 $100, $500 & $1,000 bonds with coupons on ebay that sold from $100 to $395 - one of the main things seem to be if they were 1st series or 2nd series; how do I tell? (I'm going to look it over again in case it says it & I missed the obvious!)

Possibly based on the date issued or based on who signed them? There are lots of reference books out there on CSA notes.
