    Afternoon all :)
Would I be correct thinking this brooch is 1930/30 by the trombone clasp?
I know they are still used but the style looks quite old.
Sadly the birds have lost their colour and are harder to see than the photo suggests but still a delightful little brooch. This one is a keeper so just out of curiosity!
    Thanks for looking :)
Hold on, photos not loaded, back in a sec…..

The metal looks a little newer but not much. The plastic may not be plastic....

It’s tortoiseshell I believe as it reacts to UV.

    I think earlier. 1910s.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It's lovely - I would keep it, too. Seems unusual to be curved upward like that, as it is more likely to be caught on other things while being worn.

It may have been flat originally, but curved back to its original form (or close) over time.

Yes, I think the curve has occurred over time rather than by design. Maybe it got damp at some point?

    Tortoiseshell will do that.

Thanks to all three of you. I never knew that about tortoiseshell.

Natural material and all that. It can dry and bend. I'd be using a wee smear of olive oil to bring it back to full colour.

Do I dare do a very delicate light wash of gold on the birdies? Or should I step away from the paint @kyratango ? :hilarious:

:joyful: If you are brave... I'd rater try a gold paste as rubn'buff, but be prepared it won't stay bright nor stay long if worn:facepalm:

I’ve not had much success with rub ‘n’ buff, it looks great but comes off on everything. Maybe it needs sealing?
