We went to a flea market with the kids today to meet some family who was there, and look what I brought home!
We didn't arrive very early because three kids, but when we were there, these earrings were the first thing I saw. (The box came with some brooches I also took home). They were very dirty but even then the stones stood out to me.
The metal didn't look like silver but I took my chance for 8€.
When we got home I tested them and the stones are rose cut diamonds. The metal tests as 14 carat gold but I believe it is platinum because they have the diamond-shaped mark and the metal doesn't feel/behave like gold/silver I know.
This would be my very first platinum catch 'in the wild'.
I love these earrings anyways and I almost couldn't wait to clean them to put them on!
So, what do you think about my earrings?

    Very sweet, Dessert.
    Isn't that a French maker's mark?

Thank you all for liking them.
Any Jewelry, I cant make the marks out but I saw some platinum ones in this shape, so no idea.
Platina, gold...its all good to me as long as I can keep the diamonds:D

I'm unfamiliar with the term "dormeuses"...
Is it a foreign noun meaning 'earring'?

Dormeuses is the French word for small earrings that you can even keep on while you're sleeping. Literally 'sleepers' (feminine).
It is known in the international jewellery world, but that is of course a specialisation.

Even now you may be able to find it by going over the posts with your fingernail.

Score! Remember the French take delight in hiding marks, so go over them with a fine-toothed comb ...er, loupe.

Love the earrings. What a great find. Thanks for the term Dormeuses. I have been wearing a pair of Dormeuses since for about 50 years that my father brought back from Lebanon. No need to dress up on the farm so my ears kept closing up. I have been wearing my dormeuses for the past 10 years 24/7/365. What a great word dessert 58 and thanks for the definition AJ.

800927B1-75E7-42D6-8ED4-D07DAC13BD0B.jpeg Oh boy, I m short sighted so normally good at seeing small things but even for me this one was hard to find:
    No idea what it says.
But maybe I have to learn: if it looks like a chicken, talks like a chicken and walks like a chicken, maybe it IS a chicken. :hilarious:
So 14 carat gold it is, and probably French...I m not that familiar with finding gold though

The small mark on the right says 21 in a squarish cartouche, could be the model number.
The one (or two?) on the left is probably the fineness mark, but it is much too small and dark.:( Looking at the shape it could be a Mercury head, for export.
    Meestal wel.:chicken:;)

Any Jewelry, unbelievable that you could somehow decipher '21'
After looking through 3 different loupes for an hour, I believe I ALMOST saw a mercury head or eagle :pompous:
I give up now, before I get even more crazy:rolleyes:

    I hope I got it right though.:nailbiting:
If you've been looking through loupes for an hour, you'll probably be seeing Mercury and eagle heads for the next hour.:wacky::joyful:
