Single light card advert for 'Miss Bloch & Miss Sachs' Costumes for Balls, Routs, etc. Size is about 8 by 5 inches. The addresses given in Fitzroy Place and Landsdowne Place are near the British Museum in a traditionally 'arty' area of London, Bloomsbury, so no doubt a rather upper class establisment. Free, post paid, to a good home. If more than one person is interested a name will be plucked from a hat.
Afantiques, was "A. Watts" someone of note around that time? I am NOT in the drawing for the advert . . . just curious.
Thanks to AF for the lovely card! It arrived today in the mail. I see that he never announced who won the drawing... I'm very grateful, since I rarely win anything.
I have learned that the Phyllis Sachs on the card was the first wife of Arthur Watts. I haven't found yet when their marriage was in existence. But, Watts died in 1935 and remarried. I think this card would date from the time of the first marriage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Watts_(illustrator) I found an issue of a 1903 magazine called The Studio that lists both Arthur Watts and Phyllis Sachs on two different pages, in relation to various design competitions. After each of their names it says "Regent Street." Pg. 262 for Watts: http://books.google.com/books?id=YL...CDcQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q="arthur watts"&f=false Pg. 272 for Sachs: http://books.google.com/books?id=YL...#v=onepage&q="phyllis sachs" costumes&f=false
