1920s copper trophy "low net score" signed by maker

    A couple of questions. Does anyone recognize the maker of this 1920 trophy? Stamp looks a bit like a spider web.

    Also, what does "low net score" mean -- can we tell what sport? (Tennis??) Thanks!

    Golf.

    Gross score is the total number of strokes you took. Your net score is the total strokes subtracted by the number of handicap strokes you receive according to your Course Handicap

    That mark looks like E G Websters early silver plate mark?

    There were quite a few mixed metal trophies in that period, but they were more typically bronze, and of a more artistic than classic form - sometimes remnants of the silverplating can be seen in the engraving (not on this piece), the joints, or areas difficult to reach...
