unnamed.jpg My grandmother recently passed and left me her couch and I cant find information about it online so I was hoping that someone on here could give me information on it and an approximate value of it.

Look near the bottom of your post, click “edit” then click “full image” you will get a better response from the group as many are on a phone.

There are some excellent furniture people that should chime in with better information. Personally I love it, it’s gorgeous :D

Classic...beautiful! Looks to be in very good condition!
    Is the fabric mohair?
Surprising to see no evidence of sun-fading.
May we see the back an' end views, please? Thanks!

Not Ducan Phyfe and, I suspect, quite a bit older than the 20s. Appears to be a transitional Federal/Empire sofa circa 1825. That is..... unless it is a modern reproduction. More photos might help to determine this but my gut reaction is that it is a real antique.

Though not solicited, I’ll throw my lot in with @verybrad on this one. Looks to be a take on an 1820s piece, probably from the 1980s. Value will be minimal; I’d say $100 would be a bit optimistic in my U.S. Midwestern location.

Oh and BTW, any sofa made from June of 1925 back is technically an antique now.

Are the back legs straight or lion paws? Very important point.

Welcome aboard, and I’m sorry for your loss.

Lots of people here are willing and able to help, but more pictures of the couch will help us help you. In particular, the back, underneath, and close up images of joints.

What a lovely piece of furniture! I’m with @verybrad - my gut says antique, and personally I’d be very surprised if it was made in the 20th century.

The underside would be more telling. It has to at least been reupholstered if antique, which would make it look deceivingly new. The wood doesn't look as dark as I'd expect either but I'm a novice for sure on these things. :D I'd keep it either way if it was me.

Wow. Detailed paw carving on all four legs. I can't believe a repro would have back paws. I'd treasure it. Not fond of that blue fabric, though. It doesn nothing for the sofa

The new pictures don't really tell us much. I think it is a good sign that the back feet are carved. Most of the more modern reproductions have plain back feet.

It is not the typical mahogany or rosewood you would expect to see on such furniture. However, it does not look like the plantation hardwoods seen on the modern reproductions. It may be a light walnut or some kind of fruitwood. If the latter, this might point to it being European in origin.

@Sparky3927 Do you have any history for the sofa besides your grandmother's posession? Where, when, and how did she get it? Any known history prior to her acquiring it?

Sorry no history, I just remember it sitting in her living room with nobody allowed to use it. I thought it was, said she bought in the 80's and did have it redone. But other than that, zero info, I could try to lean it back for a pic underneath. Along with a close up of the wood?
    Thanks
