Featured 1930s ? Chinese ? Bakelite lamp

Hi

Bought this in an antiques shop today not charity (£20)

But really like it (working)

Bought it for the bakelite base, you don't even have to rub to smell it

Any thoughts appreciated

I've never seen similar. Pretty cool.

I'm not sure this would be useful, but maybe a photo from above down into the socket area, and/or one of the base. Is it a standard socket up top?

looking at the carters one, thats pretty damn close looking, so i looked inside

Yep. Your photo is a little blurry but I am pretty sure I see the diagnostic cross hatching of Schreger lines. You could always take it back to the shop for a refund and tell them they should not have sold it to you. But it is a cool piece.
