Thinking this little box is cloisonne. 2 1/4 inches high.

Box looks newer to me, but has some weight in the hand. Seems like something that could have been sold in a museum gift shop for example, but could be totally off base.

Any one with thoughts? Apologies in advance if I have the mark upside down or sideways.

    Thanks!

Agreed. Not suggesting this is an antique. Newer, as I stated in the description. It is much smaller than a tea caddy. At 2", more like the size of a small bottle of aspirin, yet weighs a bit over a 1/4 pound so there is a fair amount of metal in there.

Could be just a decorative little box, we'll see if anyone can help with the mark, etc.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Both are toothpick boxes. Yes, they are sometimes sold as snuff boxes, but they are not. It just sounds more collectible.
Lucille, yours is probably Japanese, although the scrollwork looks Chinese. The cranes stand for longevity. The pine tree is another longevity symbol, for Buddhists it is a symbol of the Buddha.
    Love the blue.

    Toothpicks. That's it!

Thank you both. Also appreciate the info about the scene. Very interesting. :)

I even wondered if this might be Korean.

    Hi Lucille,
Your find reminded me of one of my "boxes". I received it as a gift 40 years ago.
It is 3½" high and a navy blue background. Cloisonne every thing is brass lined and heavy for its size. There are no markings on it. The bottom and the inside are blue speckled.
