    Hi folks

2 paintings i picked up today (5each). Both i'm not overly fond of but there might be a bit of money in them

the still life flowers look to be a victorian decor painting, but still i think a little charm

the second one i still think good for £5, can't find any info though

    any thoughts or info appreciated

That first one looks more 1970s to me. Hobbiest, definitely. Maybe the frame would be of interest?

I really like Bill's take on some rather creepy whimsical oak trees. The blue frame is okay but I think if it was framed more darkly one of those goth dark academia types would snatch it up.

thanks for info mirana, great idea regarding the tree painting. Its just got a painted finish, so painting it darker would be no sweat

a quick spray of robert smiths favourite hair spray and we'll be golden ;):playful::)

The first appears to be a decorative painting.

Apologies. I meant to add that I don't think it's Victorian.

Love the sensual and slightly sinister tree painting-I can see that hanging in one of Stephen King's better film adaptations-Mike Flanagan's 'The Haunting of Hill House'.

will have to check that out bosk, good 8.5 series ratings mixed with stephen king sounds good to me

seems so many of those types around at the moment though, the new family moving into an unknown haunted house, that they got for a steal

but still enjoy when done well

Flanagan's great w/ King. Your tree painting's got a lot of presence.

The second one reminds me of van Gogh's Tree Roots:

He was like an early Expressionist in that sense. So was Gauguin.

Initially their colors were reviled by the critics and much of the public. Back then-decent color reproduction in the penny newspapers was pretty much non-existent to the public. The initial shock of the use of so much 'complementary color' was shocking, unnatural perhaps even thought immoral by a few.
Within a decade or two things changed.

well i didn't expect that, don't actually hate it that much either (for what it is), never thought it would be painted on copper  perhaps an indication of age these types were painted ?
