    Hi,
2 lamps bases I'm wondering about.
#1 is a Saturn lamp base, has a rather large dent on the bottom edge - does this look like it is fixable or too far gone? Stands about 8"H

#2 has the electrical part gone. This is heavy, lots of letter/numbers marks on the base, also must have been stolen at one time as it still has the RCMP sticker on it. I'm not finding one similar - any ideas on where or when this would be have been made. Stands about 10"H
    Any information appreciated.
    thanks for looking.

Wow, I would never have thought that -thank-you anund! It really is nice in person, would look great brought back as a lamp.

Trench art,but most likely in the factory/cottage industry category.

    Hi,
Your Saturn lamp is repairable but is going to need to be refinished. If you do not want to spend the money and time the bottom can be replaced and matched to the
rest of the lamp. I really like like both pieces.

The Saturn lamps pop up from time to time in various configurations. I would find a similar base rather than try to repair it. As far as lamps go, parts are parts.

Thanks for all the replies folks:)
Hopefully I can find a new bottom for the Saturn one - I'm a sucker for lamps so both will be keepers.

The rings on the base of the Trench Art one were a clue that it's a mortar shell or other weapon's shell.
The firing pin impact area is under the label.
There are letters and numbers peeking out that will tell you what type of shell it is and what size it is.

Oh, I dunno...maybe the label adds some value.....a story untold....

it's not like it matters all that much where the shell was made...unless it's the rarest shell in existence or the numbers already shown can't help you track down , say a 16 pound mortar...

Try to find out stuff before taking it off...is more to the point !
There's alot of info...& shell bottoms out there to compare it to....

Maybe the label will still be legible if razored off in 1piece, keep it with a photo of it on the case head, then you can read all the headstamp marks. Nice trench art, animal images only a little behind girlie and biplane images in trench art popularity.

    Try a hair dryer first.
    ~
    No luck?
Soak it off with lighter fluid.
Buy some if you don't have any, it's great for removing stickers on many things. It's safe for books and other paper as long as the ink isn't really cheap junk.
    ~
    Have a hair dryer nearby.
Test to see if the ink will run first.
Use a toothpick with some LF on it and try it at the end of a letter or number.
If it doesn't run or come off then put LF on it and cover with a clear zip lock bag.
Put the bag flat on it so the LF can't evaporate fast.
This way you can see it and watch the ink.
If the ink starts to run quickly take the bag off and evaporate the LF with the hair dryer but not too close.
If nothing has gone wrong then leave it soak until you can carefully lift it off.
    Repeat as necessary.
Then there may or may not be much adhesive left on the label but stick it to clean paper, trim it and save it with the item.
Then use the LF on some TP ;) folded up so you can use more surfaces of it.
Wipe off any remaining adhesive and you're done. :)
