2 Pcs of Silver Plate? What was the 1st used for?

And the second is unmarked. Can't find any look a likes.
The first may have had a lid, gold wash inside, lovely flower engraving, monogram.Dose anyone recognize the mark or its original use?

The mark is Meriden Brittania. You're right about it missing a lid (at least.)

Dimensions on both items?

 

Patd, are you sure the 2nd one is silver plate? When I see a reticulated pattern bowl like that with a glass liner, I usually think Watson/Web/Webster as possibly makers - and STERLING...

Also, are these marks in your 4th photo of the 2nd piece?

 

The big bowl is 5 1/2" high and 5 7/8" point to point across the top. MIL used it to serve dinner mints after her dinners! Who does that anymore?
The small glass lined bowl is 2 5/8" tall and 5" in top diameter.

At that size, the Meriden item could well be a sugar. I just checked against 2 of mine and they're 5.5 inches without lids.

 

It just occurred to me that the legs on that bowl might be tall enough to throw off my opinion of use. And with the gilt interior, it might be a master salt. How tall are the legs?

 

@Bakersgma , found a teapot with the same floral design on ebay. Is the date close to beginning right?

They're using the inventory number on the bottom as the date. Yours has 1881. The various pieces in a set are often numbered consecutively. 1881, 1882, 1883, 1884, etc.

I was thinking a little earlier, 1870s?

 

Bakersgma is right, those long legs and the wide decorative 'collar' point to circa 1870s, and would be a sugar missing its lid...

The legs are 2" tall. I was wondering about a waste but that wouldn't normally have a lid.

Good spot! It does say Sterling with the Watson mark and some numbers that are tiny. Could hardly see them with my loupe.
