hi folk a few pieces i found around the thrifts today.

the earrings both test as sterling, but the brooch doesn't

i was surprised as i thought the brooch was and the chinese earrings wouldn't be

i'm presuming the opals are lab as they are too good a colour

Marked B at the back, and worn sterling mark, i've got a ring with the same B mark thats been stuck on my finger for a while

i'm guessing the stone in the brooch is maybe connemara marble, but unsure, has white in it

    any thought or info appreciated

Second the opals being lab grown. I've had a few from the late 90s/00s in that growth pattern and color.

The brooch looks 30s-ish? Very pretty color.

Not Connemara marble, imo. I’d think pale green agate.

They are not by Elaine Becenti. She is not a lapidarist, but makes chunky silver storyteller bracelets, that kind of thing.
Many NA artists use similar marks, the Navajo especially. The devil is in the detail, and always check the style.

Amerindien looks like an easy site to use, but nearly all marks identified on this forum using amerindien turn out not to be by the maker. That is not because their research is rubbish, but because it is difficult to distinguish between similar marks. So always verify it.

Thritto for lab opals, the colour blocks don't move. Natural opal colours flash, disappear, and appear again in a different shape when you hold the stone at a different angle.
Very likely. Also known as olive chalcedony.
    I'm with @mirana , 1920s-30s.

The Chinese earrings are sweet, and the jade looks natural. The symbols on the silver bands are coins, for prosperity.

This Geology dot com page is great for understanding lab opals and identifying the vast array of colors and patterns they come in. That lizard skin pattern was super common. I have pieces my mother picked up in Mexico, and pieces I got locally. They're everywhere.

thanks mirana, i was pretty sure they were lab opals,

still think i prefer them to most unnatural stones, they can look lovely in the light/ sun

They are definitely manufactured for peak fire! I have several and when I wore them I got compliments. Everyone loves a good sparkle.

What an amazing array of synthetic opals!! I see a lot of newer pieces with opal and typically assume they are syn. unless I can see the whole stone. Now I'll be thinking every newer jewel with opal is created! These created pieces sure have a lot of fire, older, small opals in silver or GF settings are often lackluster.

The earrings do have NA style but soooo many NA artists use a B. They aren't important enough to really need to ID the maker. Great find!
