I just managed to pick this up at an online auction.

Very high end gear throughout the auction, and then this piece as a centre piece in the living room as an artist unknown.

I love the detail and as such purchased it. Haven't physically seen it yet so haven't been able to study it for any insignia. Thought I might see if anyone can place it as obviously being from a particular artist.

    Located in Sydney, Australia

I should add, its 35cm long and 27cm high, so a relatively larger piece

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I don't recognize it. Would love to see more photos, taken from several angles, after you receive it. Somebody here may be able to help more at that point!

    Rightio,
so I've taken a photo of the maker's mark as well as I possibly can.

Its in the paint rather than in the bronze, so I can't get a rubbing of it

Is it common to paint bronze sculptures? Maybe somebody else here will know the answer to that question.

I agree with komo that it looks like Hebrew. At least the top line does.

I'm glad the auction went well and that you finally received it!

They used to paint them ie Bergman cold painted bronzes but more often today patinas are applied such as Liver of sulphur to get a nice rich brown. Copper sulphate for greeny blue. Some patinas are applied with a blowtorch to give mottled effects.

I think it's numbered 6/12. Might be obvious but thought I'd throw that out there. Also below the Hebrew letters maybe "Irit" or "Arit" ?

    So I received this reply upon sending pictures to The Jerusalem Artists House;

    Hello John,

Indeed, Irit Lev signs her works by the name Irit (Hebrew and English: sometimes only one of them, sometimes both)

We have a few works by Irit Lev in our gallery.

If you would like to, we could send you some photos after August 22nd – when Shulamith returns from her vacation.

    Sincerely,

    Tamar
