3 Of 3: Fish Maiden; Leather/Fish-skin Mask: Signed.

Almost 12" long, 6" wide, 3" deep at her forehead. Her face is that of a cherub; I named her, out of a sense of simple reverence. I've done no research on the signature, nor on fish-themed leather masks...I'm content to have her watching over me, warmed by her enduring benevolence. If I had to bet, the skin an' fins would be of anadromous nature; salmon or steelhead. But I really don't know enough to say with any certitude.

Her story: #2 was found in Northern California, near Dunsmuir, in about 2003, on a return road trip from SoCal. Within a couple of weeks, this was found within 2 blocks of home, at a yard sale. Never before, nor since these two acquisitions, have I seen a leather mask...of any stripe! I may be leading an especially sheltered existence, but them's the facts. Thanks for lookin'!

 

She's rather lovely, in spite of dead fish. Google seems to have some and many say Mazatlan, Nidar Art.
