    Indeed, but in this case their original owner, brother of Louis 16th is what makes them so valuable.

    Yes, it's their known provenance tracing them back to the kid brother that makes them valuable in a way they would not be if of unknown origin. Provenance is a wonderful thing for making something highly valuable that would otherwise be ordinary.

    quite interesting story about the furniture.
    sadly, the English wiki version is "bidon".
    not clear when people write about Swiss collectors; might be a chiffre for a French that emigrated to save a bit of the family fortune; besides that there was always a strong bond between Paris and Switzerland, so it could well be that they were a bargain in succession of the Franco-Prussian war.
