I bought this along with a bunch of other smalls (including a cool small Delft sleigh) from a friend's storage auction find.
    What is it?
I thought it was for a Chinese calligrapher's paint - but it's too tall - or his paint brushes? Or a small drinking cup?
    It's 5.5" tall
Also can anyone tell if it's old or not?
    Thank you!

The Delft mark would appear to most likely be a de Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft) mark and the "D" would date it 1882. I'm not familiar with older Fles enough to say for sure.

The chart below showing various forms of the company marks is from "Discovering Dutch Delftware" by Van Hook as is the black and white photo of only example of items that are roughly from the time period with similar subject.

I've added a very similar looking mark that is from Lehner's "Encyclopedia of US Marks" for the Cook Pottery Co in NJ that apparently says "DC" along with the mark. There are no examples of objects.

I went to check as this is a fairly common pattern and I have a charger and some vases in it. (Possibly another plate somewhere). Mine are a different maker, de Klaew, but similar.
