Any ideas where this was used and how to refer to it? 6’ ruler?

Nice rule, love the dark wood inlay or lamination. The back may tell us something, like how it was mounted. Maybe was made for use in retail store, what kind who knows.

There’s nothing on the back (that I can see). The second photo is the back

@springfld.arsenal, “Maybe was made for use in retail store, what kind who knows.”

if there's no advertizing on it , it could have been a shop ruler...mounted to a table in a fabric mill.
    or store !!

I avoid sewing like the plaque but the few times I have bought material there is always something marking about 6 ft or so out on the counter so they can unroll it and measure it quickly. I vote for a textile use also!

When I was in school, we always had a six-inch ruler. Who carries around a 12-incher?? But a six-footer?! That makes a statement!

And, at the moment, I have a wonderful, wooden, un-yardstick. It is 25 inches long, but can be turned to finish out 50. It's almost two inches wide, and reads, "Teamsters Local 443 1443 Health Services and Insurance Plan."

Why do I like it? Um...I dunno.

    But I do.

I have a similar all metal 6' one I use for carpentry projects. Keep a 3' one for places the 6' one is too large to use. Besides carpentry projects, both are great for crafting custom shipping boxes.

My experience in fabric stores is limited, but the ones I have visited have a yard stick affixed to the counter. Don't think I have ever been in one with a 6 foot counter & they're not called yard goods for nothing. Also, see a hole at one end for hanging, not the 2 that would be needed if it had ever been attached from both ends.

Seems perfect for measuring furniture, what with so many sofas being 6 feet long. Think carpeting is usually sold by the foot?

I believe it's for wallpaper. I have an old folding wallpaper table that came with one exactly like it inside.

    I’ll show ya mine
    Which I do think
    Is certainly fine!

    Ten feet by inches
    Feet stolen by grinches?
    All of one wood
That has held up quite good

    But why is it there?
