Hi I picked up this 7 inch long carved wood bird this is not usually the type of thing I collect but there was just something about it as I’m sure we’ve all done. Any information would be greatly appreciated thank you so much for taking the time to look at my post… Gary ACE43236-0832-478F-9B5D-35CD1AD9E7AA.jpeg F8BBF90E-2510-4A1B-8AAD-6CE4123BA4EC.jpeg AA3334B8-C8CF-40AB-817B-1F353F350F1E.jpeg 1F4C28AC-B344-4806-ADB6-ABB8F9D3872F.jpeg E9875D05-6BDC-48A8-BE53-79B5923F5791.jpeg

My first impression is that it may be African, possibly Senufo (Ivory Coast). The style of carving with varied, asymmetrical designs, is a typical West African esthetic. And he reminds me of birds often depicted on Senufo mud cloth:

I don't quite understand what is going on on the bottom of your bird. Is there a carved loop? If so, it might have been designed to be attached to something else, like a mask.

It’s not a loop it’s the legs he stands on them

    Nice carving, Gary.
Looks Aussie Indigenous (Aboriginal) made too, although I couldn't pinpoint the region. The designs on the body look a bit Tiwi, but their designs are painted on, rather than incised.
