The one with the punches in the bowl - I would start with French, although I don't see anything besides the punch location that is conclusive.

The name on the one with the punches in the bowl looks German, Gutt.....
But of course German names are found in many parts of the world.

Just a wild guess on the 1st one,but could it be Guttenberg?

I'm with you on the Gutt, but the letters after that look more like enmann, so Guttenmann, if that makes sense. I know the name Guttermann, but not for silverware.

Interesting find, SiS. I was puzzling over the other punch on the bowl and wondered whether it was a W with a blob above.

Oops, the url doesn't give the search info, but it says "Augsburg 1856 Franz Carl Schmedding".
If R is the date letter for 1856, W would be for 1861.

Guttenmänn? I can see an umlaut, the two dots above a letter. Could be a hotel or other firm that commissioned it.

That punch is for the retailer and, although I usually keep looking until I can find out everything possible, I don't think the retailer makes any difference in the appeal to buyer's in this case.

Too many letters apparent, but unreadable, for Guttsmonn, Terry.

The style of the first one looks early 19th C USA to me. Chasing a German origin may be a will-o-the-wisp. Plenty of German immigrants and no rules about marking silver and style is about the only clue. An XRF test that showed it to be coin silver would be pretty definitive.
