A couple of silver items that turned up from a family house I had the unpleasant task of clearing out.

Wondering what these might be worth nowadays? Not that I'd sell them (I'm actually pondering hunting down the relevant regimental museum to donate them), just interested to see the change over time.

The insurance valuation is from 1969. The hallmark on the main part of the box is worn away but can be seen on the lid (I assume they would have been the same).

£25 and £20 in 1969 was quite a bit of money.

The last one by weight was 7oz Troy.

At the closing price last night 7oz troy would be £76.28.

I'd assumed being an insurance valuation it was probably quite 'generous' at the time.

    Perhaps.
Silver prices fluctuate daily and those are the scrap/melt values.

I struggle to sell old silver at the moment even at scrap value.

I wouldn't sell these, they belonged to a good friend of my uncle's. I believe the case probably went through the war with him. The box being a military piece is making me consider donating them to the regimental museum - I think it would be fitting and something of a memorial to him.

Wish I had everything else on that list, I'd be retiring now! :D

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Donation to a museum is a wonderful idea for a memorial.

Lovely idea, I'm sure they'd welcome them.
