IMG_0238.jpg IMG_0237 (1).jpg I am actually a forensic scientist by trade but my Mom and Aunt grew up on a heritage farm in the midwest. Every now and then I come across something that I have no idea what it may be.

I am hoping to learn from others and maybe offer up a "can someone please tell me what this is?" now and then.

Welcome Lisa. I have no help for your object, but perhaps it would be easier for others to see, if you went back and edited and clicked full image for all.

Hello, Lisa! Your silver plated item may be a tea caddy or a biscuit tin. Measurements and some more pictures should clarify.

Lisa, even at that small-ish size, I would say yes, a tea caddy.

Barbour made a variety of them in the ca.1895-1900 era. Here's one example that's a different shape, but with a similar rose on top:

And another of a different shape, as well:

These are among the types of silver plated wares that remain collectible today.

    Just for your info:
Barbour Silver Co. was founded in 1892 in Hartford, CT. It became a part of International Silver Co in 1898. Your piece has the International name on it, as well, so it would date around or after 1898.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Please correct me, but with the two pipes on the mark, I was wondering if it might be a humidor, if there were room in the lid for a 'sponge'????? Or if they even put tobacco in silver plate???? ALTHOUGH, I DO realize that the rose on top isn't very "Manly"!!!!:smuggrin::joyful:
