So a few days ago I posted a thread about a Qianglong three-legged toad mini brushwasher with glue all over its body and I decided to give it another chance. I also bought a very similar brushwasher with a hole on the butt hoping they can be displayed together as a pair.

Now I have done everything I can as a new collector to restore them and they’re ready to be shown! Sadly, I have tried all chemicals I have to clean the ink in that hairline, but none of them worked. It’s been stuck in for perhaps a century and become very tough, so I’ll just leave it there. Also some scratches appeared near the hairline as a result of physical removal… but a small piece of tape does the trick and the glaze looks fine!

I have posted them in various angles so people might learn how the details on porcelain that old look like. However, if you have different opinions on dating, I will be happy to hear and learn!

By the way what should I do with them apart from planting my corals?

I can't believe they used all that gloop to hide the crack. Looks better without.

Toads are lucky anyway, as are frogs; that goes double if you find things from the American Southwest. Frogs are a water animal, and water there is a precious commodity.

As for the ink in the crack, it's dyed the ceramic at this point and isn't budging. It is now part of the design.

Yes, a reminder of someone used it to wash their brush long ago;)

Well after saying I would only consider antique porcelain that is inexpensive… I found this cutie listed at £170… don’t think I would spend that much on something I have no knowledge of but just really want to share… IMG_0835.jpeg

Very sweet. It seems to be surprised, maybe because someone gave it gold ear jewellery.;)
