I have this round silver object. Consists of two discs with a centre pin and a scroll of initials on one side. There appears to be some Hallmarking.
    Question is
1.What is it? 2. Does it open and how? 3. Can the hallmarks be deciphered?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
In addition each disc has a 4.5cm diameter and they are .5cm apart with feels like a leather

I am ALMOST certain that this is a pin-cushion. I've seen similar examples in the past. It would've hung on a chatelaine or be part of a sewing kit, and you'd stick the needles and pins in the side, through the padding.

Here's a few examples in sterling silver. These are all identified as pin-cushions:

Great thank you. A pin cushion it is then. Perhaps not as fancy as shown but a worked item no doubt.
