Here's an oil on board we've had for years. It's 22 inches by 15 1/2 inches, the pigment applied fairly thickly w/ pretty uniform craquelure. The frame shop stamp on the reverse has a 2 character letter prefix CA 7-4832, which may date this to the 1960's ?
I should take it out of the frame and check it more closely for initials or a signature.
It's got a Pollock vibe but w/ a wilder color palette.
All feedback as always welcome !

pollock inspired. The age is a plus for such pieces, being closer to the era Pollock created his work.

That's what intrigues me about this piece Drew, the earlier the piece gets to the source the better. Wonder if the artist used a splash of silver automotive paint on this ?

    I like it. :artist:

For me it's a satellite view of an urban area with waterway. :droid:

Me too, here’s a pic from the opening credits on a long running popular soap opera in U.K.

I like it too-def see that Topo Map thing Roaring & Houseful. It does look like that with that cyclonic/hurricane circular vibe in the center-looks incised w/ the handle of the brush-best seen in a glancing light.
I've gotta scour this thing for a sig.

We watched a few East Enders over in the UK. I watch it occasionally over here in the States.

It reminds me of the art awhile back that you had to stare at and pretty soon something popped out, if you squinted just right!

Cool painting bosko! I love how my eye sorta zooms in, zooms out, searching and seeking a way to make sense of a non representational image. And then, what it 'sees' can change over time.

@Bdigger & @Potteryplease I read abstract non- objective pieces that way too. You're not fastened to one particular image idea and things change with your mood, the ambient light, etc.
I generally prefer the more tranquil Zen stuff like Rothko, but I'll always throw the dice on a piece of art that has potential (plus I think I found it for a ten-spot).

$10 for a framed piece of interesting art.... I will never say no to that.

Very fun piece. It's got those cracks cause they did the paint thick and all at once instead of letting it dry as they were layering. It gives a different effect but yeah it's prone to this kind of aging.

It's def fun Mirana- The cracking prob doesn't always mean great age,but i tied that together with the 1950-60's phone prefix, and figured- i'll take a shot at it (plus it's not so inept it makes me cringe).

My use of "Aging" here meaning degradation and not time period specific.

I'd want to take it out of that frame and have a good look at it. I worked in a gift shop that sold mass produced art in the late 70s and they always used that linen frame so I'm not fond of it.

I'm with Drew, it looks Pollock inspired. An attractive piece.
I immediately though of Eastenders when I saw it.:hilarious:
Those linen frames are very 1970s.;)

Thanks for the input-got to get it out of the frame, there's 3/8" of the piece I can't see (the mystery zone !).I'll be getting out the needle nose pliers today and popping out those glazier points.
    They're the diamond shaped ones-

Man I hate those. If you can bend 'em slightly the pliers can get a better grip. Mostly they just suck though.

Interesting. The more subtle circular motif in the center give this more visual interest for me. While the linen liner frames were ubiquitous with the 70s, I think this a bit older. Wider, flatter, linen lined frames like this were seen in the 50s-60s. The 70s versions seem to be more narrow.
