I bought this for $9 at Goodwill thinking that it is just a decorative piece but I'd like to make sure it isn't a known artist. It's about 3' x 2' and is a stretched canvas with nothing on the back. So far I haven't found any clues on Google or by image searches. Does anyone recognize the style or signature? I'd welcome any opinions! Thanks in advance!

Please post a photograph of the back.

So there is something on the back. There are stamps on the frame. Would you please post close-up photographs?

This was stamped on each side of the frame.

It also looks like there might be the remains of something written on the back -

It does not seem to correspond with any impression from the front.

It looks like writing in the photo, but it's just some dusty spider webs.

The marks are for pre-fabricated stretchers you could/can buy in an art store at the lengths you needed them. So good news, not a Chinese factory painting, but probably a hobbyist painting. Pro artists tend to cut their own, but it doesn't completely rule out a listed artist.

Signature is C. Thomas....style looks 1950-60s, but I don't know when grumbacher trademarked their product line.
