Abstract painting- any thoughts please

But I like the vintage frame (looks like stained oregon pine) I also like the colours used.The artist is likely a local (a South African) Any way to tell if the artist is/was skilled? Or talented? Overall an interesting painting. It’s 47x63cm. Thank you for any comments

    To my eye, doesn't appear to be the work of a professional artist. But can see why it would appeal; very striking.

    The artist was right-handed, I believe. I'd hang it...there is a savage darkness to it, an' a suggestion of raging flames. Somehow seasonally appropriate, here in the west.
