I got this larger painting recently at a resale shop on the Oregon Coast. The guy at the shop said he was a retired gallery owner (lots of retirees in the town) but that he had not been able to identify the painter.

The canvas itself is 20" x 40" (51x102cm), with a little more with the 'frame' (really just boards nailed to the sides).

The signature seems pretty clearly to be Hazler. After I bought it I thought I had found a teenage artist with that name online but I can't relocate it. And I'm hoping it's not by a total amateur.

Your thoughts please and thank you.

I think its a factory painting. You see tags that say "signed original" in Home Goods. Just my opinion and I could be wrong so wait for others to chime in.

Thanks @johnnycb09. I should have mentioned that that tag was from the guy in the shop. (And not at all what I paid!) You could still be right, of course.

    2 observations....

while I can't be certain it's not a factory painting..
    1. that's a lot more slapdash staples than I've ever seen on factory art , and I can't see them on the bottom...
    2. I have 2 1st nations paintings here in front of me , bought directly from the artist , with similar 1 or 2 thin strips of soft wood used as the frame.
Not the frame I would expect to find on factory art..!
More like struggling artist using bought canvas and a home made stretcher...

Good chance a factory piece (seem to recall this visual style out there) unless evidence says otherwise. There are more being made then ever - even with false dates to deceive. Recently saw a video of paintings being done in Malaysia - about 40 painters in a huge room merrily creating abstract paintings, surely not for local market.
