Abstract Wood Sculpture

    I think your title nailed it: 'abstract'.

    The size and tight grain look somewhat south pacific/asian to me. As do the 'open' pore structure at the flat portion. Those pores are indicative of woods that transport water quickly, i.e., tropical.

    So does the 'large' carved chip marks the chisel made inside the 'eye' ... you can only do that if the wood is somewhat light and porous, like balsa. i.e., large chunks get taken away at one time with the chisel.

    So short of doing rorschach testing on what I think it looks like, I haven't come across anything in my journeys suggesting hidden content. Maybe the Asian/Pacific experts see something there.
