Hi all, I am new to the forum so apologies if there is a thread I should be posting this in. I have inherited a large Jardiniere and no idea when it comes to try and determine a value. I don’t want to get ripped off by any potential local antique dealers. The item has been in the family for generations but sadly, it just isn’t my type of thing. The back story is that it was one of a pair from a residence that is now a stately home. I have no idea if it is true and sounds abit far fetched.

I have attached a couple of images. The handles are inside and have cone off over the years. They still connect to the lions on the side.

    Any advice is welcome

    Thanks

Have you checked out the name of the family who lived in the now Stately Home property? The crest/coat of arms on the piece could be theirs.
    Welcome to the Antiquers btw.

    Hi and welcome!

Usually you get the best responses if you put your question into one of the "Forum" categories such as "Metalware" or "Antique Discussion" because more people usually check the categories they have some interest or knowledge of.

Does it have any maker's marks? Maybe on the base?

The thing with value is that it depends on what options you have to sell and where you are. For example if you sell it yourself online through Ebay or the like you'd have to deduct the fees etc. If you sell through an auction house you'd have to pay their percentage of sale and possible other fess which can run pretty high sometimes. If you're going to offer to antique's dealers harder to know.

I did find a similar jardinaire on stand, though not exactly the same, that sold at an Irish auction house in 2016. It says there is an embossed armorial however it's not very visible. It sold for €340.

Thanks for your reply and info.

The design on the bottom looks identical to the image you uploaded.

I will have a good look to see if i can find a makers mark or even try to identify the coat of arms.

The history of the item has faded with its passing through the family and like i posted originally, the only details i have is that it was one of a pair that used to stand at the bottom of a stair case in a house became a stately home.

A family member was a long serving staff member of the house and the item was given to them as a thank you / retirement gift.
