Hello. I've just bought a 'job lot' of a few items from the same seller, amongst which was this brass/bronze(?) figure of a chicken, which measures c. 12cm across.
It is fairly crudely cast and the 'patina' looks as though it might not be due to age.
I've tried to research on the internet and have come to the conclusion that it might originate from West Africa, possibly Nigeria (or perhaps even a cheap repro from Mali(?)).
Anyway, it's probably worth very little, but I would nevertheless be interested in find out anything I can regarding it's age and likely origin, should there be anyone out there with more experience of such figures.

Thanks in advance for any help offered !

Hmmmm. I've just come across this advert for a similar type of figure, which is stated as being a Benin bronze figure from Nigeria. Although much smaller, my figure does seem to have similar features, especially the feet.
in any case, thank you all for your efforts !!!! Screenshot (244).png

Their geography is a tad challenged. Benin is an independent nation.

There is the independent Republic of Benin, which is different from Benin City. Benin City is located in Nigeria, is the center of the traditional Benin Empire ruled by the Oba, and the source of the historic Benin bronzes.
