Featured african ? stringed insrument

    hey guys

    can anyone give any information regarding this musical instrument

    African in origin ?, or are they made everywhere

    its a proper functioning, tunable thing, cant find one like it, or find a name for it

    tourist piece ?

    any help appreciated

    It looks Asian, with Australian Aboriginal decoration added later.:confused:

    listed as from Indonesia: "Cekuntrung, a stringed musical instrument....It has 4 or 2 strings in single courses. The strings are often made of metal, but sometimes of nylon or fishing line."

    This does look playable, but perhaps not of professional quality; and in export items, Indonesian craftspersons are pretty free in using decorative motifs taken from a variety of sources, including Australian aboriginal styles.

    bought a lovely uke today, paid quite alot (£75) but had to have it, cant wait to get it set up and playing, dated 1915

    Nice uke! Quality instruments are almost always worth restoring.

    the man it (and he is) is

    found a 1st pressing of astral weeks in a charity shop last year, and haven't stop playing it since

    unbelievable album, so surprised i had not heard of it before, its spellbinding !!

    album completed in just 3 sessions !!,

    never realised he wrote through automatic writing either, velly velly interesting

    who would have thought that testing a record to see if it played ok, would end in finding your favourite album of all time !!
