    Very nice find, Boland.
    Looks like it. 19th Century European or European influenced imo. Did SA have kilns where they made stoneware?

    Many thanks for the reply AJ. That’s very good news.I wasn’t sure about the history of stoneware pottery in SA. I did do some reading:

    “Stoneware pottery in South Africa has a rich history, with roots tracing back to indigenous pottery traditions and later influenced by European and East Asian pottery styles. While earthenware was the predominant type for millennia, stoneware gradually emerged and evolved, becoming a significant part of South African ceramic history’

    I read later production was heavily driven by commercial/industrial demand so there must have been kilns in use. Thanks again

    Very interesting. I think it could be 19th century South African, but maybe you can check with a SA historian.
