Age of frame on watercolour. Late 19th century?

Does anyone have an idea of the age of this frame? It will help date the watercolour.
It is damaged, which means the veneer and the build-up of the coating are visible. The nails are rusty, and seem to have no heads.

The subject of the watercolour is a Madurese or East Javanese holy man. The title is Kiyayi Aronsa, which translates to something like Reverend Timeless, or Timeless Reverend. The vertical white line in his turban is some kind of reflection, it is not there in real life.
The artist's surname is Adam, which could be European or Indonesian, I can't find any information on the painter.
    Any help is appreciated.

That's what I think of as a document frame. It's a style that's been out there forever. Unless you can date the nails, I don't know if there's anything that can indicate the age.
