Hello again, i received this piece as a gift again to use it as a pinky ring, i said i'm not from the otoman empire, hahaha. Are this ring from the 60's, 70's or 80's? Says 18k italy outside. I think is from the 70's, thats ok?? 20171019_142002-1195x2124.jpg 20171019_142026-1195x2124.jpg 20171019_142053-1195x2124.jpg 20171019_142310-1195x2124.jpg 20171019_142428-1195x2124.jpg

That wouldn't surprise me. The marks being on the outside does. I'd be going for the Ottoman chic if I were you.(LOL)

Like a little turban for your finger. Does not actually look very comfortable to wear. Is the ring size large enough for a woman to wear it on the ring finger?. The 70s were marked by some ostentatiously large 'cocktail rings', even though no one was throwing cocktail parties anymore.

Is there also a mark on the inside of the shank?

I love me a ruby ! But...is it just me or is the casting a little crude, for lack of a better word ? You would think with 18k,rubies and diamonds it'd be more refined . I only mention this because lots of fake jewelry is marked "Italy".

Yes, some red flags. I would get it tested.
Btw, nothing wrong with a bit of Ottoman bling.;)

Can you tell me your opinion about this one.
I won it in auction ebay when gold was low and cost a little more than scrap value. 14k gold tested. 20171020_113244-1195x2124.jpg 20171020_114129-1195x2124.jpg 20171020_114201-1195x2124.jpg 20171020_114218-1195x2124.jpg 20171020_113731-1195x2124.jpg

It looks like contemporary Indian work. Beyond that...dunno. I honestly wouldn't know a retail value on something like this. It's too new, and those aren't high grade stones. The center looks like a ruby that's been seriously messed about.

I agree. Contemporary Indian. At least you got it at a bargain.
If you don't know much about jewellery, but want to buy good pieces, always stay away from the new stuff. India has conquered the market, they make attractive jewellery with low grade stones, badly cut, that would never be accepted in the major diamond centres of Antwerp, Amsterdam, and London.
The best thing is to start studying jewellery and gemstones, before you buy something.

The second ring is definitely opal. The setting looks crude enough to be made by hand, maybe even a sand casting. It's neat looking.

opals come from more places than just Australia.....& this one looks very thick .

The opal does indeed look unusually thick. A doublet, I think.

The setting is Modernist in style, possibly period too.
The cabochon certainly looks like a doublet. Strange, they needn't have done that, the top layer is thick enough to be set as it is.
It is natural opal, which is nice to see. I come across too many manmade opals for my liking.
I think Australian is a safe bet in this case, although, as komo said, they are found in other places as well. Precious opals are found in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia. Australia is still number one, but the Ethiopian opal mining industry is growing fast.
