AGE & REGION OF SILK? CARPET/RUG

I bought this at a garage sale ($20!) - I think it may be silk?
Any idea of age or what country it is from?
I don't thin it's hand made because or the finish along the long sides?
What I like about it is with all the browns, there is green scattered throughout - like leaves falling off a tree!
It also has some kind of number written under 1 edge - auction # or inventory #?
PS - It is just under 7ft long

I've never seen a silk rug that wasn't hand made.....but anything's possible.
Still...20 bucks.....that's a good buy,,

 

It is Persian, Kashan style. It looks exactly the same as this one, is it the same one?

That other rug has a significant "tear" damage at one end. Look at all the pictures. It's a very similar design, though.

The underside view of yours, with no "foundation" revealed, does appear to be hand-knotted. Not terribly old, but does show wear to the fringes. "Persian" in design name only. A lot of these were (and still are) made in India or Pakistan because the US embargo against Iranian goods beginning in the 80's left a hole in the supply chain.

 

If Id have bought that pretty rug for $20 Id have got it home and it would smell like cat pee! I seem to remember someone saying if it looks just as good flipped over then its a better piece,and that one does.Get it professionally cleaned,Ive learned through hard experience not to try it myself!

I can not express this any better. Get an ozone machine. They are wonderful and I mean wonderful. It will be the best 80 to 100 dollars you ever spent. I got the nastiest smells out of rugs, drapes and cars with mine. Now I am presented with getting a new machine. The manufacture stopped making the innards for my machine. My machine was 40 years old and used a hell of a lot. I sent one rug to the cleaners twice and they could not remove the smell. 24 hours in a box with my old machine and the smell was GONE for ever.

Nice rug, btw. I don't have an ozone machine, but there are some things that definitely need de-skunking. This one would be worth the effort; those silk Persian-style rugs cost $$$$ new.

 

Journey didn't say anything about this rug having an objectionable odor.

I made the cat pee comment as a funny.I long ago quit buying upholstered furniture or rugs because I always had the worst luck with smells. I in no way inferred Journey's rug reeked! LOL!
