Age/thoughts on old unsigned painting please

    Approx 12" x 20"
    Aside from the imperfections, what are your thoughts on this painting, good?, bad?
    Age? I'm guessing sometime 1800's, but that's all I got.

    I looked pretty closely outside and unfortunately don't see anything.

    Late 19th century. Typical take on despondency or sorrow, which was a fairly common theme in paintings. May even be based on a known work. Fairly naive so would think a talented amateur.

    Naive...maybe.....but I think it's really well painted.....better than amateur !

    That boat / barge is so distinct , it must be able to be linked to a region !!

    The more I look at the composition...the finer I see it to be !

    The boat is a punt, you can see the slanted swim and the punt pole. It is for somewhere marshy/muddy; river punt poles do not have the flat to stop them sinking too far into the bottom.
