Aging Metalware

Hello I'm interested in understanding how to determine the age of metal ware

 

Please always post pix of entire object and at least approximate dimensions . Sometimes how and where you got it can help. What did previous owner say about it? Feeding us only tiny bites of it is usually unproductive. Good photo so far though.

The quantity of zinc in the mix doesn't look good for it being too old

zinc? interesting how can i educate myself to make that kind of observation???

 

All the white is zinc oxide. You can wipe some off with your finger. If it were old, it would all be gone. If it were made well, there would not be excess zinc in the brass.

 

OPINIONS please

 

20th C. Kitsch. Not sure of your motivation in buying it, what's it supposed to be anyway? It has to be some everyday accessory because the craftsmanship isn't up to fine art standards. It is only an appliqué piece but "it is what it is" and if you like it who are we to detract from that?
