Would anyone be able to help identify this badge please?
It has no marks - looks to be possibly hand made. The silver metal has worn in places and is a brassy colour underneath.
I assume it is an airforce/aviation badge but maybe not British - could it be WWll?
It measures about 3.5 inches from tip to tip and the circle with the "W" is about 3/4 of an inch across.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Not military in my opinion.
Could be a sweetheart brooch or just a brooch.

Doesn't look military to me either, but could be some civilian airline.

The air force did not become a separate branch until 1947. the clasp looks older. I have sold lots of military pins and have never seen one even similar .

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
And thanks for clarifying the meaning of Lark's post - the air force not being a separate branch until 1947 had me puzzled for a moment!
As I mentioned the badge looks to be a handmade/amateur item. I did wonder if it was a sweetheart brooch. I have quite a collection of them (from across the services) but apart from the perspex/lucite ones they are all commercially made. It was the "W" that had me intrigued but it could just be that it is the initial of the sweetheart! It is also much larger than any of my other badges/brooches. Don't know why but I just have a "feeling" that it is not British made. For some reason I'm thinking Polish but have absolutely nothing to back that up!

Definitely not USAF. I was an aircrew member, and have an extensive collection. It looks like a decorative pin or possibly small defunct commercial co., but I doubt it…
    Still a nice piece

It has the air of a comic book or radio show premium from the 1930's
