I'm getting an Alaskian/Inuit/NW Coast vide from these three carvings. All about 2.5 inches long. Good stuff or tourist junk? The doggie looks to be made from jade? Thanks for any help with identification.

The two bears are Zuni fetish carvings, from New Mexico.

The dog, I would suspect, is Chinese. China has been making carved stone figures like this, which are often mistaken for Native American.

The black bear fetish is signed. HH? Could be Herb Halate:

"Herb is best known for his angular walking bears in highly polish black jet, although he also carves in dolomite, pipestone and marble. The weighty, sculptural quality of his carvings is striking. Herb's uniform, signature aesthetic is understated dramatic elegance. His highly polished bears sport simple and contrastive turquoise bundles; his stylization is unmistakable."

Check the other bear fetish for a mark as well. It would be under one of the feet, just like the black one.
The bear fetishes are quality, but they were made for non-Zuni. There are many collectors of Zuni fetishes.

The husky is probably a BC jade carving, like the BC jade bears. Certainly looks like Canadian nephrite jade. It is a nice souvenir.
By the way, the Chinese also carve Canadian jade nowadays.

I know, I'm old, to me and to Chinese jade tradition that is nowadays.
Chinese purists have been complaining about Canadian jade flooding the Chinese market for decades. I like Canadian jade, so don't see what the fuss is about. Besides, do the Chinese have any right to complain when it comes to flooding the market?

I think it's very possible the Chinese have been carving Canadian jade a for lot longer than there's been a Canada.

There is a possibility of earlier contacts between China and the NW Coast. Doubt if they involved mining and carving jade, though.

I've heard stories of parts of Chinese junks washing up on coastal beaches before European contact....but other than that...
