Featured Alcock Neo Rococo Potpourri C1840

    I’m not looking for help on this piece which arrived today but I thought that lovers of English flower painting would appreciate the quality of the decoration. It would have had a pierced lid but I think it looks better without as the lids were quite ugly (see final pic). Although Alcock is not one of the biggest names they clearly had some quality artists working for them.

    Sometimes when you look at the decoration on porcelain you can't help but think the painter was having a good time.

    Botanically correct flowers, too.

    Whilst everyone thinks of these as English country garden, they nigh on all originated overseas.

    That's a particularly good piece, looks good enough to be in the upper ranks of Coalport or Mintons of the period yet alone Alcock. Great find.

    hard enough to paint on canvas or paper, can not imagine this quality on ceramic. Love the flowers/

    The large pink bloom I think is a Hoya.
