Alfred Barye Fils Bronze Statuette - Questions

    Hi,

I bought this recently on eBay. I’m torn between thinking that it’s absolute kitsch and that it’s a nicely made little statuette. Maybe both are true…

This is supposed to be a bronze cast by Alfred Barye - (1839 - 1882) son of the sculptor Antoine Barye. It is signed (at least partially) Barye Fils. It’s about 4 ⅞” tall including the base.

Google lens shows me several of these floating around the web - generally titled Children Playing Leapfrog. Some of them appear to be more tinny than others. (Possibly spelter?)

I’m curious about when - and where - this was made.

I imagine that it was cast well after Alfred Barye’s death. (Possibly mid 20th century?)

Is this from a foundry that has some kind of authorization to cast Alfred Barye’s work?

Is it from an original Barye cast? (I don’t know how this stuff works.)

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

It does not appear to be an early casting as there is little to no definition or detail to the piece. I would say a recent reproduction but still a nice decorative sculpture.

Agree re quality of casting. For comparison.
