I'm thinking it's maybe from Peru and maybe the designs are Inca influenced. I also wonder if it was made for practical or decorative use. Thank you!

Does look Latin American. A photograph of the full blanket would be helpful. And why do you think it's alpaca?

Thank you for your response! I tried adding an additional photo. It's rather soft and does not feel like wool.

Komo, lately it seems that a lot of your images don't come thru properly. Any idea why?

My vote is for Peru. And I like it.

When we were in Cusco (Peruvian Andes capital) we were told ponchos with an off-white background were specific for Cusco, whereas other towns prefered red, for instance.
This isn't a poncho, but the colour scheme could be from Cusco.
There are other characteristics that distinguish ponchos from one cultural group from another though, and I don't know the details, so I could be making a terrible mistake.

I vote Peru too and the white hair is typical of alpaca.

Yup BUT when you get those white ones that stick out as shown on the edge it’s a sure sign. Years ago I sold a luxury designer Italian suit. I had recently retired and no longer wore that kind of clothing. I bought it in Milan directly from the designer’s store and paid a fortune even when the lira was 2000 to the dollar. Sold it for a ton but way less than it was worth years later. The buyer was nasty and wanted to return it as “there were white cat hairs all over it”. No cats in this house LOL. I told her to send it back for a full refund less shipping but she should know that the suit was worth at least double what she paid on the secondary market AND the white hairs were alpaca-the suit was labeled wool and alpaca. She kept it. I should have insisted she send it back.

And she was incredibly nasty! The suit was pristine and today would probably bring at least $1500 preowned. I really should have taken it back. It still irks me and it’s been about 18 years so loving this thread for reminding me LOL!
